School Day Matters

Grandparent’s Day is this Friday, Oct. 9 from 11 am until 1 pm. Please remember to send a picnic lunch for your child and their grandparents.

Report Cards: We are almost finished with the first grading period! Please schedule a conference with your child’s teacher to get their first report card.

Safety: In an effort to increase safety on campus, we will be keeping the front doors to the school locked during the school day. If you need to enter the building during the school day, the front desk volunteer will let you in. Please pick up a visitor name tag to wear while you are on campus. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to keep your children safe.

Red Ribbon Week Coming Up!  CCLC will be celebrating Red Ribbon week during the week of Oct. 26-30. Each day there will be an activity focused on teaching the students to say no to drugs. We will also be having the following special dress days:

  • Tues. “Team up against drugs” wear your favorite team’s sport shirt

  • Weds. “Turn your back on drugs” wear your uniform backwards

  • Thurs. “Doing drugs is crazy” crazy hat, hair, and sock day

  • Fri. “Band together against drugs” wear bandanas with your jeans and school shirt.

Fund Raiser Matters

Beach Pictures: This is a great way for the school to raise funds (we get 100% of the proceeds.) And it is the best price around that you will find for beach pictures.  Click here to open and print a registration form.  Reserve your spot soon because spaces are limited!
Coupon Books: Sale ends this Friday, Oct. 9.  Please turn in all money and unsold books on Friday.

Home Matters

The positive side of failure
What do the Beatles, Michael Jordan and Walt Disney have in common?  Failure. They, along with the other famous failures, overcame potentially devastating challenges on their road to success.  When Michael Jordan was cut from the high school basketball team he locked himself in his room and cried. Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper because he had no original ideas and he lacked imagination. The Beatles were turned down by a recording company because they didn’t like their sound. Abraham Lincoln had two failed businesses and lost 8 elections before becoming the 16th President of the United States. Lucille Ball was dismissed from drama school and told that she was too shy and she was wasting her time.
Has your child experienced failure recently?  Are they getting discouraged? Help them to see that the positive side of failure is learning from experience how not to do something!  As inventor Thomas Edison once said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."

The Million Minute Family Challenge
Playing board games is a great way to interact with family and friends. For children, games teach social skills including following rules, fair play and good sportsmanship. Games can also sharpen vocabulary, spelling, math, creative writing and critical-thinking skills. CCLC is joining the Million Minute Challenge where groups and families from all 50 states are encouraged to play board games and record their minutes. Go to www.millionminute.com to register and help put Alabama in the lead. We will be having a celebration party and family board game night at the school on Jan. 22.

Soul Matters

Our Virtue for the month of October is Individuality. But being an individual is more than just discovering how we are like someone else or different from others - at least for believers it is. Being an individual is also about how our heavenly Father designed us to make a difference in this world. God, the master Architect, has a master plan in which He is weaving together all our character traits and experiences in order to shape and mold us into the people He wants us to become, and He's doing this with each of us, twining our lives together in ways that are intricate, beautiful, and mind-boggling.
