Home MattersBeing a friend
Making friends is a give-and-take proposition. Let your kids know that in order to have a best friend, they should learn to be one. Encourage them to take the first step in reaching out to another child... one who might even be feeling the same way. Fund Raiser MattersBeach Pictures and Coupon Books: Thanks to everyone who supported our Beach Picture and Coupon Book fund raisers. We raised $1825.00 to go toward curriculum needs. A special thanks to Pam Odeneal and Missy Tyler for coordinating these events. School Day MattersWow! Can you believe we are already 3 weeks into our second grading period. This year is moving fast. Please be aware of the following dates:
School will be closed for the following holidays: Soul MattersCome fall, do you avoid shopping malls like the plague because of the too-much-too-soon festoons of garland and tinsel and Santa Clauses, or do you start celebrating with Christmas tunes in October? Whether you love the festivities or hate the commercialization (or find yourself somewhere along the continuum), Christmas still is “the most wonderful time of the year*,” surpassed only by Easter. What better time of year to show children what (1) compassion(our new chapel virtue) is all about: caring enough to do something about someone else’s need? (2) God saw our greatest need—our need for a Savior—and did something about it when He sent us Jesus in baby form. Could there have been a more eloquent expression of love and compassion? No way! “The Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion” (Isaiah 30:18, NIV; emphasis is ours). Imagine His elation when He sent Gabriel to tell Mary about this great gift coming her way! Imagine what God instilled in Mary’s heart and mind in those nine months He prepared her for Jesus’ birth. (3) Just as He instills compassion in us. (4) And just as Mary’s arms would cradle that infant in God’s love, He enfolds the world in compassion through our words and actions. So in chapel, we will focus on helping kids understand that compassion recognizes or sees something, that you have to pay attention and SEE what people need before you can meet their needs.
