School Day Matters

With all of the extra Christmas parties, programs, baking, decorating and shopping, it’s easy to get caught up in the business this time of year brings. Here at school, we are busy finishing our first semester. Help your child finish well by remembering to check their folders, reminding them to do homework and/or logging on and checking their progress in Keystone.

Cookie Walk and Christmas Crafts
Our 2nd annual Cookie Walk will be held this Sunday, Dec. 6. from 10 am-2pm in the school building. We need all parents to donate cookies. Please bake and send as many as you can with your child to school this Friday, Dec. 4. We still have booth spaces available for crafters. If you are interested in reserving a booth space, go to our website at calvaryclc.com and look under the “NewsFlash” section for a link to download a form and send it back to school with your child on or before Friday, Dec. 4.

Home Matters

Teach your child to focus on and enjoy giving to others first before they consider their own desires. My Christmas Giving List can help your child decide who they will give to and what type of gift they will give them; a gift of service, a gift you make, or a gift you buy. Go to : http://www.imom.com/images/Christmas%20Giving%20and%20Receiving%20List.pdf  to print instructions and a full size version of My Christmas Giving List.

Soul Matters

Christmas! What better time of year to show children what (1) compassion (our chapel virtue) is all about: caring enough to do something about someone else’s need? (2) God saw our greatest need—our need for a Savior—and did something about it when He sent us Jesus in baby form. Could there have been a more eloquent expression of love and compassion? No way! “The Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion” (Isaiah 30:18, NIV; emphasis is ours). Imagine His elation when He sent Gabriel to tell Mary about this great gift coming her way! Imagine what God instilled in Mary’s heart and mind in those nine months He prepared her for Jesus’ birth. (3) Just as He instills compassion in us. (4) And just as Mary’s arms would cradle that infant in God’s love, He enfolds the world in compassion through our words and actions. So in chapel, we will focus on helping kids understand that compassion recognizes or sees something,  that you have to pay attention and SEE what people need before you can meet their needs. Take advantage of the Godtime cards that are emailed to you each week. They are a great way to reinforce what we are learning about in chapel and they provide you with engaging discussion tools for your family devotion time.
