Homeschoolers:  The meeting scheduled for this Thursday, August 26 has been canceled.  All registered homeschoolers should have received an email with details.  Please contact us if you did not receive that email so we can give you the details, and also because we need to have up to date information so that we can stay in contact.  Stop by over the next couple of weeks between 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to register, get your information packet and sign up for electives.  We are very sorry for the last minute notice!

We are so excited to start a brand new year and it was so wonderful to see all the new faces in addition to all the familiar ones! We have such a precious group of students and we love them all already. We do have a few important things that we wanted to bring to your attention.

Snack Information

We wanted to let you know that we have snacks and drinks available for your child to purchase during break each day if you are interested. Snacks are 50 cents and drinks are $1.00.

The list may vary according to availability so we generalize it on the order form.  Please click here for a weekly order form that you can use (if you prefer) so that you don't have to send money in with your child every day if they will be buying their snack. You can make copies of this form or you can download/print it from our website each week. Of course you are more than welcome to send snack for your child every day but we do ask that you do not send any sodas or caffeinated beverages.

Drop Off and Pick Up Traffic

With all the awesome new families we have this year we thought it would be a good idea to go back over the traffic flow for morning drop off and afternoon pick up.

Morning Drop Off: In the morning, please make sure you get your child here by 8:00 a.m. After you turn off of Canal Rd and take a right toward the school, please take a quick right directly into the parking area and drive around the side of the parking lot to drop off your student by the overhang in front of the door (your passenger side should be closest to the building). Please see the pick up procedure map below. For morning drop off, you will want to follow the elementary pick up direction. Everyone can form a line that way and take turns stopping at the door. If you are going to be in the car line, we will be more than happy to guide your child into the building and to the right place. If you will be getting out of the car with your child, please park in the parking lot and walk them in instead of getting out of the car while you are in line so that the line will not back up.

Afternoon Pick Up: (please see the pick up map below) In the afternoon, please pick up your child at 1 p.m. If your child is in elementary school (grades k4 through 5th), please pick them up the same way you drop them off. If your child is in middle school or high school, please drive down the middle toward the building and take a left to pick them up in front of the basketball court fence.

T-Shirts and Art Supplies

Please remember to get your t-shirt orders in! The deadline for t-shirts is this Friday, August 27. Children are allowed to wear blue jeans and their school t-shirt or regular school shirt every Friday. The art supplies are due on Monday August 30. If you did not receive a list of supplies needed, please see Mrs. Schlauder for a copy.

Labor Day Holiday

Don't forget our first holiday! We do not have school on Monday, September 6.

--

A copy of this will also be available on the website and we will send it out in an email. If you did not get the email today, please make sure we have your correct email address.

Hello Everyone,

I hope your summer has been relaxing and refreshing. Can you believe that it is almost that time of year again? Walking through Wal-Mart the other day I saw row after row of school supplies. There is just something about new pencils, crayons, and folders that are not yet ripped or wrinkled that puts me in the mood to start school. If you're not quite ready yet, don't worry you still have about four weeks left. However, I did want to give you some information so that you can begin preparing for the start of the new school year.

Supply List - 8th and 9th Grades PDF Print E-mail

2010 - 2011 School Year

Mrs. Spence's List:
1.  Bible - Students will need this bible everyday.  Whatever version you're comfortable with is fine; we enjoy comparing versions.  I use NKJV only because I like the figurative language.  When I'm teaching language from the Bible I will provide them with copies.  I find that the old King James is too difficult.  I like study bibles, but they are not required.  We use Bible Gateway (online) often since the students like to compare versions and use the study notes.  Please consider downloading a program called ESword on your home computer; it is free and is an awesome resource.

2.  2-3 section spiral notebook or binder - If your student is prone to having random sheets of paper hanging out of his or her binder, you may prefer spiral.  It matters not to me.

3.  2 packs lined paper

4.  1 pack copy paper

5.  Pens, pencils, erasers, at least one highlighter

6.  Hand sanitizer and box of tissues

7.  The Watsons go to Birmingham a novel by Paul Curtis (I will gladly buy these novels back when we're done.  Used copies are available at Amazon.  The work is much easier when they do not have a library book.

Wish List
Colored copy paper, maps of any kind, books about Alabama (not just the Bear Bryant kind!), Christian or historical fiction novels, books about Ancient Civilizaitons, good dictionaries

Mrs. Schrader's List:
(formerly Ms. Kelly)

1.5 inch 3-ring binder with 2 pockets
3 packs loose leaf paper (college or wide rule)
1 pack Graph Paper
1 protractor (to measure angles with)
1 ruler (prefer the floppy kind)
Pencils, NOT PENS (mechanical or traditional)
Crayola Colored Pencils-basic colors
Small scissors

1 ream (box) recycled copy paper
1 large box Clorox Wipes
2 rolls of paper towels
These items may be brought in January to re-stock our classroom

Teacher wish list (items I could really use if you’d like to help out)
Expo dry erase markers in basic colors
Dry Erase Board Cleaner
White board erasers
Hanging file folders
Manilla file folders
Sticky notes
Permanent Markers (black and colors)
Push pins

If anyone has a large desk they would like to donate,  I could use a better teacher’s desk.

Thank you,
Beth Schrader
